Viking Venture Unit Family camp and Trig visit - details

As previously advised, the family camp is taking place in Edale on the weekend Friday 26th September to Sunday 28th September.

Several alumni have advised us that they have booked into ‘brick built’ accommodation, whilst others are generally camping at either Field Head or Coopers farm. If you are not booked in, don’t worry – you can roll up at coopers where 135 pitches are available. Beware the grumpy farmer.

It was always the intention that the camp should be informal. However, there is one important event that it would be nice to see as many people as possible taking part in.

The Walk and Race

A visit to the trig really is good for the soul. The intention is to all set off together, whether racing or walking. The old, young, infirm and canoeists will amble up together at the back. In the spirit of the Viking it is important to engender a competitive edge, and so ‘The Winner’ this year will be the first to set hands on the trig.

At the trig, it would seem appropriate to spend a few moments remembering absent friends.

It will be particularly poignant this year as we have lost both a legend of the past in the great Jim Duffy, and also Ian’s son, Jake Shaw, who was to have joined his father in what I am sure would have been a competitive race for the title.
